New Music: Mary J. Blige - "Therapy" (Co-Written by Sam Smith)

mary j blige therapy single cover

This is a good day for Mary J. Blige fans. For just a few hours after the leak of the new song "Whole Damn Year" from "The London Sessions", another track is here - although this time legally premiered by a radio - from Mary's upcoming album which is due out in stores on November 24. It’s the Sam Smith co-written “Therapy”. According to Billboard, “Therapy” is the real first single from "The London Sessions" and not “Right Now". Billboard also recently reviewed the song explaining rather well what fans of the Queen of Hip Hop-Soul could expect from it:

Smith co-wrote lead single “Therapy” with Blige and Eg White (Adele, Florence + The Machines, James Blunt). The song, which is said to borrow from doo-wop with a simple beat, minimal instrumentation and backing harmonies, will become available as an instant-grat track on Sept. 23 when fans purchase a pre-order copy of the album on iTunes.

The moving “Therapy” premiered this Monday morning on “The Elvis Duran” show on Z100 radio, but it's also now available for free download if you pre-order Mary's "The London Sessions" album on iTunes in this very moment.

Very nice ballad, and I love the build-up before the chorus. The lyrics of “Therapy” talk about Mary having to seek help after experiencing a traumatic split.
