Jennifer Lopez Disrespects Toni Braxton's "Unbreak My Heart" With Lip-Synched Performance: Watch
Jennifer Lopez rang in the New Year with a one-off
concert at the Colosseum theatre inside
Videos of the NYE concert have just begun to surface only and browsing through them I found a particular one that caught my attention. It was a unique performance. It was Jennifer Lopez doing a mash-up of her "A.K.A" ballad "Let It Be Me" with Toni Braxton's iconic R&B classic "Unbreak My Heart". When I found this video YouTube, I said to myself: "boy, you NEED to check this out!". View (and comment) below:
First of all, let’s clarify something. This WASN’T live. I thought it was live at the beginning but as the performance moved on it became evident to me that Jennifer was lip-syncing using a pre-recorded live vocal (so yeah, she did sing this mash-up "live" at some point, but the thing is to do it at your LIVE concert, not at a studio where your vocals can be edited to sound pretty and always in pitch). Anyways, I had no problem honestly watching Jennifer Lopez use playback because I've already watched her do it many times before and because she's already a freakin' diva and she can do whatever she wants at this point of her career. However, I do have a problem at her disrespecting a classic song like Toni's "Unbreak My Heart" in this manner. Lip-sync your own songs, girl, but don’t "mess" with the songs of other artists! It just breaks my heart (no pun intended) to witness “Unbreak My Heart” be so disrespected. You HAVE to sing this song LIVE if you're doing it in a concert. You just have to. Oh, and LOL a little at Jenny using a crazy lot of "back-up choir vocals" during the pre-recorded live high notes of the song!
