Jennifer Lopez - On The Floor (New Song!)

Poor Jennifer Lopez has been struggling lately to release her seventh studio album "Love?". It all started in late 2009 with the release of "Louboutins", one of the most horrible flops in J.Lo's career, and then the departure from Epic Records (they did not see any future in "Love?"). Jennifer fortunately did not remain much time unsigned as just a month later Island/Def Jam announced Jennifer Lopez as the new artist in their roster. Def Jam quickly scrapped all the material from the original "Love?" and looked to revamp the CD with a new sound. Hitmaker produced RedOne was hired to work on several songs with the latina diva. And this collaboration with the Swedish producer has produced the official first single from the revamped "Love?". Jennifer's new single is entitled "On The Floor" (featuring Cuban rapper Pitbull). This leaked earlier this week in snippet form and last night hit the net in its entirety. Listen above.

The song 'sounds' hot. It's fun, uptempo and latin-flavoured. You'll hear Jennifer sampling Kaoma's 1989 hit "Lambada". Although, I have the feeling RedOne also introduced some elements of Edward Maya's "Stereo Love". In some moments I think I'm hearing that song. BTW, this is apparently an unfinished version of "On The Floor". Ryan Secreast has confirmed he will premiere the "final thing" early next week. I hope they change the first part. I mean, Pitbull raps during the first entire minute!! That's got to be a mistake. And I'm expecting too the beats to be neater. But the whole structure of the song seems strange, doesn't it? There's no definied hook for me. BTW, I also have the feeling this song comes from RedOne's oldies vault. I can bet this was intended for Kat Deluna originally. The sample thing is suspicious. Kat Deluna already sampled a Brazilian artist, Sergio Mendes, in her single "Dance Bailalo", and now Jennifer does the same with Kaoma.

In any case, Jennifer can make "On The Floor" a hit in the US. She's radio premiering it next week, the same week American Idol premieres and where she's a new judge. Just wait until "On The Floor" garners up some airplay and you'll see in late January/early February Jennifer performing it on the Fox talent show. I can bet anything one of the conditions in J.Lo's contract with American Idol was that the show supports her music career. It just seems like everything is working in Jennifer's favour this time around. She's got a 'hot-sounding' soingle and the biggest possible outlet on earth to promote it. Power to her.
