Drake Releases Cocky New Single "Summer Sixteen": Listen Now!
During the latest episode of OVO Sound Radio on Beats 1 last night (Jan. 30), Drake took the opportunity to world premiere his new single “Summer Sixteen”, produced by frequent collaborators Noah “40” Shebib, Boi-1da, and CuBeatz. “Summer Sixteen” has been presented as “the lead single” from Drake’ upcoming studio album “Views From the 6”, which last night was announced for an April 2016 release.
What’s “Summer Sixteen” about? Over a menacing urban production Drake raps “I’m out here looking for revenge” – warning competition he’s coming back for the top of the charts, “I used to want to be on Roc-A-Fella, then I turned into Jay / Now I got a house in L.A., now I got a bigger pool than ‘Ye / And look man, ‘Ye’s pool is nice, mine’s just bigger is what I’m sayin’” - shading Jay-Z and Kanye West a bit, or “I could’ve killed you the first time, you don’t have to say it louder homie we heard you the first time” – taking aim at Meek Mill yet again. Overall, “Summer Sixteen” is basically Drake getting really cocky.
Will this be bigger than “Hotline Bling”? Time will tell…
