Are We In 2001? Listen To Becky G’s ‘New’ Single “You Love It” [Review]

becky g you love it cover

Cute. That’s the first adjective that came to my mind to describe this “new” song from Becky G. Why the quotation marks? Because Becky G debuted this “new” song “You Love It” exactly one year ago with an acoustic performance at some radio station in the US. And today, October 30th, 2015, we are just receiving the studio version - which indeed give us a total new version of the song, but opens the debate whether we can call it new or not.

Produced as expected by Dr. Luke, “You Love It”, is the new single from the Inglewood, California singer that will appear on her forthcoming much-delayed debut album. When will this LP be out? No one knows. RCA has yet to confirm a date. But take a look at the irony here. It seems that Austin Mahone and Becky G had more things in common than we knew. Truth is I don’t know why the two of them split as evidently they were made for each other. Austin hasn’t been able to release his debut album yet due to the chart failure of this latest singles, and it’s the exact same scenario for Becky G. Poor them if at the end Republic Records, in the case of Austin, and RCA, in the case of Becky G, decide to definitely cancel their projects. Maybe they can team up to create a duo and go independent? Just an idea…

You Love It” is a cute, teenagers-oriented pop son that even though sounds a bit date, for it sounds like something we could have heard on radio in the early 2000s, there’s something about it that I like. It just immediately puts me in a good mood, and the chorus is absolutely delicious, and of course, catchy. Dr. Luke knows very well how to create ‘instant’ pop songs. Sucks that we’re in 2015 and not in 2001, though, because the probabilities are high that “You Love It” will find failure, another critical blow for Becky G, on radio.

You need a little something for the turn up (We need it) / You should turn this up on your radio and play it in the club”, sings Becky G in the chorus of “You Love It”. Becky G recommended the entire world, male or female, that they should play this song on full blast if they want to either flirt or have a good time. Will you do what Becky G says?

Hit or Miss?
